“Blissless Yield Remix” Music Video

Aug. 16, 2011 — Today sees the release of my latest record “Tusks!” accompanied by a fresh music video for “Blissless Yield Remix.”

This is my debut as music video director/editor. It was a learning process, but through the years, I’ve done so much over-the-shoulder editing and photo editing, that it wasn’t to far fetched that I’d be dabbling in video soon enough. I guess that fits with the song’s topic: the hard work of being an independent artist. With images of Sape life on the road, interacting with fans and driving in vans, plus a few shots of the fam, you get real feeling of what exactly this song is about.

What’s it about? Work ethic. The Grind. Working hard and working harder. It’s all I know. You may recognize the song, as the original is on my previous album Barrels For Feathers. There are a few changes in the lyrics, but the beat is completely different. I’ll be dropping a music video Aug. 16th along with the record. “MANY ONE” MUSIC VIDEO

The video for this instrumental track was written and directed by Portland filmmaker Tim Slusarczyk and hosts something of a fractured, off-center story arc. Is it about drugs? Sad dudes with beards? Inner demons and moldy ceilings? Maybe. Maybe not.

“Many One” is just the first video to come from “Tusks!,” the initial album in the “Eaters” series, which I liken to Madlib’s “Beat Konducta” records, only filtered through a vision of Ratatat-esque indie rock sprinkled with boom-bap power. Enjoy!

“Grown Up” Music Video

“Grown Up” Music Video

Here’s my latest music video “Grown Up”. This is the last track on my latest album Barrels For Feathers and will be the final music video for this album. The video, directed by Portland filmmaker Shawn Shannon, visually echoes the song’s theme: what it means to grow up. While hip-hop has long tradition of imagining the artist as child — the cover of Biggie’s “Ready To Die” is just one famous example — the video for “Grown Up” also shows the audience as children, reframing the normal scene of a rap show with one showing all participants as kids. (The kids did get real booze BTW.)

There have been many hurdles leapt to bring you this video: lawsuits involving inebriated kiddos, public outrage from Portland’s mayor, a flaky editor, and a bite on my calf from a rabid cat just to name a few. So enjoy, my friends… enjoy.
